RSP were commissioned by The University of Stirling for the refurbishment of the main
Library. The four storey building contains campus learning resources with
archive and current materials stored over two levels.
The main level concourse is used as electronic resource area with meeting spaces. The basement level is used mainly for storage and incoming deliveries of equipment and materials Spaces are ventilated and illuminated via exposed services to provide a sense of space that is apparent from the existing low floor to ceiling heights. A new central atrium has been provided to deliver natural daylight to the centre of the deep plan space. The project involved a feasibility study of using Airthrey Loch to provide free cooling to the library via a water source heat pump. The project was utilised as a pilot project by BRE for the new BREEAM Higher Education scheme. RSP were the BREEAM assessors. ![]()
