Completed in 2006, the Fort
William Medical Centre for PMP encompasses over 4,000 sq m of two-storey accommodation
to house three of the Fort William GP practices, including NHS facilities
for dentistry, pharmacy and community facilities.
The building is highly serviced using woodchip boiler plant as its primary heating fuel source, supplied locally; this both reduces the buildings carbon foot print and the travel distances involved with the fuel provision. The building was thermally modeled with key areas of overheating in summer clearly identified and provided with additional ventilation to reduce these occurrences to acceptable limits. The building utilised energy saving variable speed drives and lighting in the offices is controlled by presence detectors. In addition an energy saving motor roomless lift was installed.
