| Budongo Primate Enclosure |
|
The Budongo Project is a new chimpanzee enclosure and visitor experience in Edinburgh Zoo. It involved the design and construction of an enclosure that merges science, natural habitats and the visitor experience. The new building will house a population of up to 50 chimpanzees and features 3 interlinked living 'pods', a 200 seat auditorium, interactive public mall, cognitive research laboratory shared by Scotlands major universities and a significant external play area. The enclosure will replace the current chimpanzee house and form the entry to Edinburgh zoo's tropical forest biome. The conservation theme is strong, with close ties to the RZSS sponsered chimpanzee research and protection project in the Budongo rainforest, Uganda.
