RSP’s experience in the education sector covers the full range from pre-school to Higher Education. This sector leads the field in energy performance and use of renewable and diverse technologies.  RSP continue to provide services and environmental design advice to clients such as the University of Edinburgh, University of Aberdeen and The University of St Andrews.

The practice was recently responsible for the M&E services design and co-ordination of the new Biomedical Sciences annex which was a £13.5m, 2,000m² facility for the University of St Andrews which included Cat 2 and specialist Cat 3 laboratories, write up spaces and offices. The building links directly to the adjacent Purdie building which contained specialist active research requiring the design team to carefully consider interfaces. The project was the first project in Scotland to achieve BREEAM ‘Outstanding’ and the first laboratory building to achieve this rating. The building also has an EPC rating of ‘A’.

We also provided the Building Services design as part of the Public Private Partnership (PPP) programme for Stirling Schools. The Wallace High School project was a new modern 900 pupils Community High School located close to the Wallace Monument near Stirling. It contained new teaching facilities as well as pool, games hall and external pitches. The building was thermally modelled with IES software to maximise natural ventilation.
