record with integrated biomass boiler designs at Fort William Health Centre for
NHS Dumfries & Galloway, Girvan Community Hospital for the NHS Ayrshire
& Arran Trust and Wythenshawe Hospital for the University Hospital of South
Manchester NHS Foundation Trust.
of the new Girvan Community Hospital was completed in under a year. The
building’s energy performance was assessed using dynamic simulation modeling
and achieved an EPC “A” rating. The project was a pilot for new healthcare
construction and has won the National Award for Best Sustainable Design at the
Building Better Healthcare Awards in 2010 and the Health Facilities Scotland,
Energy & Environment Award 2010.
RSP has also recently completed the building services
design for Westerhailes Healthy Living Centre and Musselburgh Health Centre for
NHS Lothian. The Musselburgh
Health Centre was a 6,300m² facility and incorporated minor surgery, pharmacy
services, dentistry, physiotherapy, dietary, radiology and GP services. The project was procured under a traditional contract and
was completed in May 2012 on budget and on programme. The project obtained a
BREEAM Excellent rating which included low energy solutions such as natural
ventilation, LED lighting, low water consuming sanitation, underfloor heating
are currently proceeding with the design for the Lothian Bundle of health
centres which includes North West Edinburgh, Firhill and Blackburn for the
South East Hub.
